Macon High School Library Fine Policy

To encourage responsibility while maintaining access for all students, the MHS LMC library follows a delayed fine structure rather than daily overdue charges.

Overdue Materials
Students are expected to return borrowed materials in a timely manner. Friendly reminders will be provided throughout the overdue period.

Fine Timeline

  • No daily fines are assessed.
  • If an item remains unreturned after 4 weeks, it will be considered long overdue.
  • At that time, a flat $5.00 fine per semester will be applied to the student’s account.
  • Fines will not exceed one charge per item per semester.

Lost or Damaged Items

  • Materials that are lost or returned in poor condition may result in additional charges based on replacement cost.
  • If a lost item is later returned in good condition, the fine will still remain in place.

Student Access

  • Students will continue to have access to library resources whenever possible.
  • The goal of this policy is to promote responsibility—not to restrict student use of the library.

Communication

  • Students and families will be notified of overdue materials and any applied fines in person or via email.
  • Questions or concerns can be directed to the school library staff.

Where do fines go?

  • Student fines are deposited into our school library “Student Activities” account. These funds are reinvested directly into the library—supporting student prizes, new books, Epsilon Beta (our student library organization), and other library-sponsored initiatives.
